Beginner Classes

Little Pirates (Ages 6-8)

Our youngest fencers get started with fencing basics using plastic swords.  These plastic weapons require less protective clothing than metal weapons, but still give the feel of real fencing. As students gain coordination and control, they will advance to child-sized metal weapons and full protective gear. This class is for both beginning and continuing fencers ages 6-8 and meets once a week for 40 minutes for 6 weeks. Enrollment is accepted at the start of the 6 week session.

Level 1 (Ages 9-14 )

This is our entry level program for ages 9 to 14.  During this ongoing program, students will learn the basics of fencing foil. Students will be tested on a variety of skills, moving at their own pace. When the student has shown proficiency in all required skills, they’re welcome to move to our Level 2 class. Students are expected to be in this program for 3-12 months. Enrollment in this level is ongoing and new fencers may join at any time, with a one week free trial period. Please see the schedule for days and meeting times, then complete the form below to let us know when you would like to start your free week.  After one week, students who want to continue will become dues paying club members. New enrollees in this program receive a free fencing glove. By the time a student finishes level 1, they will be required to purchase a mask, plastron, and jacket. Financial assistance is available for students and families needing help with these purchases. Contact the office for details.

Enrollment in this program includes:

      • Weekly group classes in any number of weapons.  As a member you may take as many Level 1 group classes as you like.
