As a 501(c)(3), Missoula Fencing Association, Inc. is governed by a Board of Directors made up of adult fencers and parents of youth fencers.
President: Matt Clausen
Matt hates writing about himself in the third person. He is board president because Ed wrote his name down on an IRS form. Matt fences foil but will also fence epee if there are no other choices. Outside the club, Matt is an assistant principal at an area high school. He also enjoys the outdoors–hiking, biking, and kayaking his way around Western Montana.
Vice-President: Ed Higgins
Ed is a dedicated fencing parent who helps out with personnel and staffing at the fencing club. In past lives Ed was a FIFA licensed soccer referee, a credentialed high school teacher, and volleyball coach. These days Ed is an attorney practicing at a non-profit that provides free civil legal help to low income individuals. He is a certified Basic Archery Instructor through the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). He also enjoys distance and off road unicycling.
Secretary: Becky Frost
Becky is another dedicated fencing parent. She is the lead on our marketing and fundraising committees.
Treasurer: Jessie Pillsbury
Jessie started fencing in college and competes in both foil and epee. When she isn’t fencing or managing the club’s finances, Jessie works for a local telecommunications company, tends to her community garden plot, and enjoys the outdoors. Jessie is also active promoting fencing around the region, serving as the Inland Empire division president for the 2019-20 season.
Sergeant-at-Arms: Ben Martin
Ben has been zero help writing a blurb for the website. As a member of the board, he heads up the facilities committee. Ben fences foil, is a counselor at an area high school, and has taken up blacksmithing and knife making in his spare time.
